Jerkwadz DVD

So I burned up copies of the Jerkwadz DVD I produced for them to sell at the DVD premier. Producing full length DVD's for a band is nothing new for me but I did learn something cool about my studio. My computer can burn pretty good looking labels on DVD's so I will be using this feature in the future for sure. I am pretty proud of this DVD though. It has three music videos, two live performances, a interview, a Jerkwadz segment on a public access show and some extra bonus footage as well. It's about 50 minutes long. I think everyone is going to like it so if you get a chance be sure and buy a copy.

Movie reviews:

Breaking Glass - super cool drama about Kate, the leader singer of a band she describes as "influenced by punk, but better" who meets Danny, a street hustler who talks her into being her manager. He sets up a new band for her and gets them some shitty gigs at dive bars full of Nazi's and fights. Kate displays typical aversion to success at first but pretty soon she comes around. Danny talks to the right people and before you know it the band "Breaking Glass" signs a contract with a big time promoter and next a record contract. The band gets a fancy pants producer who inflates all their egos so bad that they won't do a encore for hundreds of fans chanting their name because the sound system sucks. Pretty soon Kate is a drugged out mess dressed as a robot doing huge stage productions before a thousand fans. The music in this film is totally awesome and I can't believe this isn't a huge cult phenomenon and that I have not seen it all ready or even heard about it. I stumbled across like 10 punk movies on netflix watch it now and this is the first I watched. Highly recommended!!

Petrified - Directed by Charles Band and distributed by Full Moon. I have been a fan of Full Moon since I was in my early teens. They always had the coolest most creative stuff on the video and created the "extra" way before DVD even came around. In this one a alien mummy terrifies a rehab for hot young female nymphomaniacs run by a mad scientist. The suspense works because you are thinking the whole time, "Damn Mummy! Don't kill those sexy chicks! They would fuck anybody!!!". Recommended.

A Scream in the Streets - sexploitation film from producer Harry Novak. Like a cop drama with a bunch of boring sex scenes thrown in. There is some sleaze like a massage parlor being assaulted by a guy who wants to beat his masseuse with a belt after he fucks her. Also a transvestite serial killer. But the sex scenes were really bad and long, kind a of inbetween soft and hardcore. I guess I was just not in the mood. I started fast forwarding to the cop shit but eventually turned it off before it was over. It was a Something Weird DVD so it had it had tons of previews and short films that were pretty entertaining. I would say pass on this one though.

Change of format and other stuff.

Well the big news here at Mormo International is that this month's episode of our TV show "Mormo Zine" is the end of season one. The episode, "The End?" will air at 11PM on 3/17/11 and at midnight on 3/18 and 3/19. It features Love Songs for the Hated, Tony Bag 'O Doughnuts, Freshman Year, Darian Renee, Freezeout Hill, 3rd To Last, Jump Jets, Little Miss and some other stuff. The show will continue but with a new format. There are a few reasons for this and the main reason is that I cannot afford to make the trips to Boise needed to fill a half hour. The show will change from being a punk rock show with aspect of horror to being a horror themed show with aspects of punk rock. Mormo's role will change from being a VJ to being a horror host. There will be one band band per movie with one song/music video per half hour episode.

Question to bands. Would you rather record at TVCTV studio or get gas money to travel to Oregon to record and then get a gig at a local bar? My strategy of working with bands is going to change going into season 2. Instead of trying to get work from bands I will now offer bands opportunities to work which they can take or leave.

There are two movies I have my eye on for hosting right now. My next step is to write up contracts for the film makers to sign. I want to host indie no budget backyard movies rather then the public domain stuff that most horror host use. Eventually I want to produce a DVD to sell to distributors that I can make enough money to make the next episodes and pay the film makers so they can put the funds towards their next projects. Questions and comments about Mormo Zines new direction are welcomed!

Movie reviews:

I Spit On Your Grave remake - ISOYG the original is the one movie my father would not let me and my step sister see, so in my book it is one of the most fucked up movies ever made. I am not a big fan of the film but it definitely had some unforgettable moments. I've only seen it once but from what I can remember I think the remake is actually a better film. ISOYG is a rape/revenge movie. The gang rape in this film is hard enough to make you feel physically ill and in need of a shower but not so bad that you want to turn it off. It's the revenge scenes where this remakes really shines though. Really sick twisted tortured to death shit like I've never seen before. Alot of the stupidity of the original is corrected in this version as well. I will probably never watch it again but there is no denying that is a well made, powerful film.

Wicked Games AKA Truth or Dare 2 - This is my third Tim Ritter film and he is starting to seem like a one trick pony. People cheat on there spouses, someone goes crazy and kills people. The actor who played the killer in part 1 was what made the movie so awesome and the cast of the sequel is really lacking comparatively. Still, this movie delivers the nudity and creative kills. I will seek out the rest of Ritter's movies and hope he takes one of them in new direction. What's crazy is this Sub Rosa DVD had no menu. You had to play the movie all the way through then a special behind the scenes docu would play. They couldn't call this movie Truth or Dare 2 because of the Madonna movie.
